The Women’s Section of the Mount Maunganui RSA was formed in 1953. We currently have a membership of 500 plus, making this Women’s Section the largest in New Zealand at the present time.
The Volunteer Brigade
We have a working committee of a small band of volunteers; these ladies are the administrators and organisers, and a Social Committee organising entertainment. Our format is a quick meeting, followed by an hour’s entertainment and afternoon tea. Special afternoons are held on the last Wednesday of each month at 1.30 pm.
We raise funds by catering for many functions – Funerals, Birthdays, Weddings and Rest Homes. Our Internal Sports Club Christmas parties and various Award ceremonies are also catered for. The organisation and collection for Poppy day is a big event, and we help in the collections for the Cancer Society and the Blind Association. We also sponsor a puppy for the Guide Dog Association called “Vito”.
